Ushetu and Kangeme Schools, Tanzania: Digital Education and Computer Lab Initiative

Tanzania is a nation of breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, yet many rural communities continue to face severe poverty and limited access to basic services. In the Ushetu and Kangeme villages, families struggle daily with malnutrition, poor healthcare, and the inability to afford education for their children.
For most parents, sending a child to school is a dream beyond reach. Children from impoverished households often stay home to help with household chores or farming, reinforcing the cycle of illiteracy and poverty that limits their futures. In this context, education, especially access to technology, is a bridge to opportunity, empowerment, and hope.
Rural schools in Tanzania face enormous challenges: outdated infrastructure, lack of materials, and no access to digital tools. Many children walk long distances to attend class, often without meals or school supplies. Without exposure to computers or the internet, rural students remain disconnected from modern learning methods and career opportunities.
By equipping the Ushetu and Kangeme Schools with a functional, solar-powered computer lab, this project directly addresses the digital divide, offering rural students the same opportunities as their peers in urban areas.

With the support of Defi For Good, this initiative aims to establish the first-ever Computer and IT Learning Center at Ushetu Primary and Secondary School, a rural school serving over 350 children in the region. Currently, the school has no computers, no internet, and no access to digital learning tools, leaving students unprepared for higher education or future employment in an increasingly digital world.
The new Computer Lab will:
- Provide digital literacy and IT training to over 350 students.
- Introduce computer-based learning to complement the national curriculum.
- Enable teachers to integrate modern technology into classroom instruction.
- Serve as a community resource, offering adult digital literacy workshops and access to online information.
- Operate sustainably using a solar panel energy system, ensuring reliable access to technology even in off-grid areas.
This initiative not only improves education, it empowers the entire community, opening pathways to knowledge, communication, and economic opportunity.

Direct Beneficiaries: 350 students from Ushetu School who will gain essential IT and digital skills.
Indirect Beneficiaries: Teachers, parents, and community members who will benefit from digital training and improved access to information and communication tools.
Community Impact: A more connected, informed, and empowered rural population, capable of using technology to improve livelihoods and education outcomes.
Access to technology is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity for growth, opportunity, and independence. For the children of Ushetu this Computer Lab will be their first gateway to the digital world, equipping them with the skills and confidence to shape their own futures.
By supporting this project, Defi For Good is not only providing access to computers, it is creating opportunity, fostering inclusion, and empowering the next generation to build a brighter and more connected future for Tanzania.
